The Apple Developer Academy is a unique learning experience at the intersection of creativity and technology that empowers all Detroiters to thrive in the world’s most vibrant app ecosystem. 

Participants learn the essentials of coding, design, and business with Apple tools in order to craft their own pathway in or with tech.

The Academy is a free 10-month program running from August through June. We meet for 20 hours a week (a.m. or p.m.), in-person, at our location in downtown Detroit.  

Application Process

Applications for the 2025-26 cohort are now closed. The application for our future cohort will open in the spring of 2026.

The Apple Developer Academy in Detroit is a partnership between MSU and Apple. Individuals 18 or older have the opportunity to become a world-class developer using Apple's iOS ecosystem. The Academy focuses on coding, design, entrepreneurship, and essential professional skills. 

Two programs are offered: the main Academy and a Foundation Program, which provide learners with the opportunity to build a foundation in these domains.

There will be two class times offered. Both are held Monday through Friday. The available times are 8 a.m. to noon OR 1 to 5 p.m. (subject to availability). In-person attendance is required at the Detroit location at 660 Woodward Ave., Suite 200, Detroit, MI 48226. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Both programs will be held at the Apple Developer Academy headquarters, located in beautiful downtown Detroit at 660 Woodward Ave., Suite 200, Detroit, MI 48226. 

The Academy Program is 20 hours a week for 10 months.

The Foundation Program is 20 hours a week for four weeks.

Anyone can attend! You must be 18 years of age or older to apply.

Technology is provided to participate.

Our application process involves submitting an interest form. If you are eligible, you will be asked to participate in an interview.

The Apple Foundation Program at the Apple Developer Academy in Detroit introduces learners to the basics of app development: research, design, user experience, prototyping, and an introduction to coding with Swift.

At the Academy, you will learn to navigate the app economy: coding with Swift, UI/UX design, tech entrepreneurship, and project management. You will also practice professional skills, including collaboration, public speaking, or interviewing. 

Yes, we meet in person.

The program is free to attend.

MSU and Apple Developer Academy do not guarantee job placement. You will have access to employment opportunities.

We will provide parking for the duration of the program.
