Kevin Buchholz (he, his, him) - Coding Mentor
Musician. Photographer. Racecar Driver.
As a coding mentor at the Academy, Kevin enjoys helping people meet their individual goals and develop new skills.
Prior to joining the Academy, Kevin taught photography at the New School and then worked as a studio manager at a university in Denver.
Kevin got his MFA in Photography at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. When not in the Academy, you can find Kevin taking road trips and making photographs, playing music, gaming, and racing cars around cones at airports and in parking lots.

If you were to offer students one piece of advice as they start their journey at the Academy, what would it be?
Go with the process and be open minded.

Have you always wanted to work in tech? What is your personal history with tech?
I haven’t. Being GenX, my history with tech was being forced to adapt to new things while complaining about it the whole time.

What was your experience with coding, tech, iOS, or entrepreneurship before the Academy?
Before the Academy, other than being an Apple user, I had zero experience with tech or coding.

What made you want to be a mentor? What are you most excited about?
My experience as a learner in the academy solidified my desire to become a mentor here. I’m super excited to see what the learners create each challenge.

Where are you from and where do you live now?
I was born in Grand Rapids and grew up in Toledo, OH. I have lived in Boston, Cincinnati, Chicago, Denver, NYC, and now live in the Detroit area.
