As a coding mentor at the Academy, Marcus engages with learners to help them realize their ambitions. He enjoys connecting with different people, is excited about technology, and loves seeing growth in the learners around the Academy.
Prior to joining the Academy Marcus was a freelance software developer. He helped start-up businesses with their technical needs, building websites and apps to help facilitate their growth.
Marcus received his certification in Software Engineering from SpringBoard. When not in the Academy you can find Marcus working on apps for his freelance business, in the moshpits at a concert, playing videogames, or lifting very heavy things at the gym.

What would your fellow mentors say your greatest strengths are?
My positive, friendly attitude, critical thinking/analytical skills, and curiosity.

If you were to offer students one piece of advice as they start their journey at the Academy, what would it be?
Have a conversation with everyone. At least once.

Have you always wanted to work in tech? What is your personal history with tech?
I have always wanted a place in the tech industry. I have always loved and been endlessly curious about technology.

What was your experience with coding, tech, iOS, or entrepreneurship before the Academy?
I am a self-taught software developer, I know multiple software languages. I started my own freelance software development company and before joining the Academy I developed many different web projects personally and for business.

What made you want to be a mentor? What are you most excited about?
I was a learner in the first ever cohort. I had an amazing experience and grew tremendously throughout my journey. I am most excited about helping others through their own journeys.
